Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are critical in fulfilling our mission to support frontline workers in the community who are making sure no child goes without the basic necessities needed to thrive. Each volunteer plays a vital role in making sure the Resource Center continues to have the capacity to support frontline workers. Learn more about our volunteer opportunities below. Once you let us know you are interested, we will contact you to discuss next steps. We look forward to serving alongside you!

Wednesday or Sunday RC Volunteer

To get a feel for the overall ministry of Fairfax Outreach, spend some time with our Resource Center volunteers on Wednesday or Sunday. The Resource Center is the hub of activity and where you will meet other people serving in various ways throughout the church, the community and globally. Each week we do a variety of tasks to keep our Resource Center running from shopping, stocking shelves, making essential bags, bundling diapers, and assembling donation requests from area social service providers. We have volunteers that come every week, twice a month, once a month, or whenever they are available! This is a very flexible way to volunteer. But we need you to sign up for the specific day you are coming so we can expect you.

Join the team that shops for food and hygiene items needed to keep our shelves stocked in the Resource Center. Shoppers can shop based on their availability. This is a great opportunity to serve with your children or if you need a flexible schedule. Reimbursements are provided for our shoppers.

Our Food Distribution Team serves alongside a local group of residents distributing food to those in need in their Annandale neighborhood three Thursdays out of the month. Volunteers help load the truck, set up tables & tents, offload and distribute food donations. Volunteers can commit to once a month or weekly on Thursday between 9:00am – 12:00pm. We invite you to join us on a Thursday and see what the Food Distribution is all about!

Each Thursday at our Food Distribution we set up a Kids Corner to have a place for little children to hang out while their parents are waiting in line for food. We typically do an art and craft project, read a book, and play games. We need volunteers to commit specifically to serving in this capacity during Food Distribution.

We are looking for someone who loves social media and would like to help us tell the stories of what God is doing in and through our Resource Center. This volunteer will work under our communications team to manage our Resource Center social media accounts, plan when and where pictures and videos will be posted and help us communicate our vision and mission in our community.

Volunteer

Join our Communications Team in the Resource Center as a photographer responsible for capturing photos of the various outreach programs that take place in Fairfax Church and Fairfax County. Photographers play a vital role in the storytelling efforts of our social media platforms by capturing inspirational moments of volunteers serving others and of non-profit/government partners

Fairfax FISH is a conglomerate of 14 churches serving the people of our community, in which Fairfax Church is a part of. They are always in need of phone captains and drivers to take orders and get the necessary resources to people in need who cannot leave their homes. The commitment is once a month to be on call for a specified amount of time during daytime hours to receive orders.

Volunteer

On the second Saturday of each month we provide a to-go style breakfast for homeless guests at the Lamb Center in Fairfax City. Volunteers are needed each month to prepare these breakfast meals and deliver them to the center.

Group Service Projects

We welcome small groups, school class service projects, and others that might want to serve as a group at our Resource Center. This is a fantastic way to support the work we do and serve some of the most vulnerable children in our county. Group projects can be customized based on the number of people, budget, and time available. Projects can include creating essential food bags, building weekend food packs, hosting a food collection in your community and many more ideas. Email us at resourcecenter@fairfax.cc to explore these opportunities together.

Corporate Day of Service

Hosting a Corporate Day of Service with your company or organization is an incredible way to support the Resource Center. And it is fun too! We can tailor make an experience for you that will bring your team together to serve and provide vital resources for the vulnerable children and families we serve. Email us at resourcecenter@fairfax.cc to explore these opportunities together.
