Who We Are

The Resource Center is a ministry of Fairfax Church and at the heart of our mission to love our neighbors. The Resource Center began operating in 2020 in response to the significant challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognizing the heightened vulnerability of families and children, Fairfax Church aimed to bridge the gap for those in urgent need. It became apparent that this type of safety net support was a permanent need in our county, and our center quickly moved beyond resourcing individuals and small food panties to connect with the larger ecosystem of care in Fairfax County and beyond to work with social service professionals to provide immediate resources for families ineligible for federal assistance or awaiting benefits.

Our mission is clear and unwavering: no child should be without essential resources for their well-being and growth. The Resource Center was founded on the principle that no family should face hardship without support, and every child deserves access to essential resources to meet their basic needs.

The Resource Center addresses the critical issue of food insecurity among economically disadvantaged families in Fairfax County, Virginia. With over 30% of Northern Virginia households unable to afford basic needs like food, shelter, and healthcare, the program plays a vital role in meeting the growing needs in high need areas throughout the Northern Virginia area. As one of the largest emergency food and essentials program in the region, we play a pivotal role in reducing financial strain, preventing poverty, augmenting income, and helping families regain stability.

What We Do

Our customized household packages— containing food, hygiene products, baby care essentials, and household staples— offer immediate relief, allowing families to focus on securing sustainable resources.

Who We Serve

The Resource Center has a unique model in which we work directly with social service professionals who request resources on behalf of their clients. This model ensures that families facing a crisis situation are working directly with a case worker ensuring a holistic approach of services as they work towards long-term stability.

Social service professionals are often limited in finding resources due to hours, location, and referral restrictions. Our no-barrier, rapid response service provides case workers resources within 24-hours of request, ensuring immediate access for families and an ease of burden for our social service professionals often overwhelmed with high caseloads.
